Auto insurance can be one of the most costly monthly bills for a large fraction of Americans. With more and more people looking for ways to save money in 2010, saving on auto insurance becomes a approved topic. Below are a few simple ways to help cut your auto insurance costs.

The easiest diagram to cut your insurance cost is to lower your coverage. By lowering your liability and comprehensive coverage amounts, you can set aside hundreds of dollars per year. In an example insurance plan, the driver has bodily injury coverage of 50,000/100,000 and pays $950 per year for this level of coverage. If they were to reduce the coverage to the 25,000/50,000 level, the cost would be reduced to less than $800 per year. Reducing coverage amounts increases your financial risk but reducing unnecessary coverage amounts keeps you fully protected while also saving you money.

In addition to lowing your coverage amounts, increasing your deductible can also cut your insurance cost. Some auto insurance policies include a collision deductible starting at $100. Increasing this number to $500 or $1000 can save the driver a distinguished amount. Increasing your deductible does not reduce your coverage, its impact is felt only when a claim is made on the policy. Increasing your deductible can be especially beneficial for limited use drivers or drivers with an accident free record.

Another simple change to reduce costs is to eliminate any small policy additions which may be redundant. Some insurance policies come with small additions such as roadside assistance or rental car allowance. These additions can be useless if you have similar coverage elsewhere. Some drivers will have roadside assistance or rental car allowance through their cell phone policy, car warranty or in-car assistance program such as OnStar.

It is possible to cut your insurance cost while maintaining the same level of coverage. One way to do so is to change insurance providers. With the spacious variety of car insurance providers, you may find cheaper rates at a different company. Companies like Progressive and Geico provide drivers with an online quote making it easy to compare prices. The same coverage, for the same person can be drastically different at two different companies because of varying company policies and associated costs. If you had an insurance claim four years ago, and your new company keeps a five-year history, you can save money by switching to a company with a three-year driver history policy.

You may also find savings by combing your current policies. If you have homeowners insurance and car insurance through separate companies, you may find a nice discount by moving your policies to the same provider. Collect the company which allows you to join the most policies and gives you the biggest discount for doing so. Combing your car insurance with your health insurance, renters insurance or homeowners insurances can provide a large discount.

Keeping the same coverage but changing your covered car can also help you cut costs. A newer car costs more to insure and rates can be higher depending on the model and type of car. If you trade in your sports car for a sedan, you will find significant savings. Cars can also come with significant savings attached. Models with high safety ratings will yield a bigger insurance discount.

Cutting your insurance cots can also be as simple as searching out all of your eligible discounts. Being a member of a certain groups, such as travel rewards organization or college alumni associations, can mean savings on car insurance. Ask your group if they provide any insurance discounts as some alumni associations offer up to as much as a 15 percent savings. Some insurance companies also offer military and college graduate discounts.

Remember to keep your policy up to date at all times. Drivers can receive discounts for where they live, how veteran they are or if they got married. If you move, even with the same state it is essential to update your information. Insurance costs are typically cheaper when you live in less populated areas. Drivers can recieve a discount for being married and for being in a household with multiple policies so updating your state can save you money.

Consumers tend to fall into one of two distinct camps: Online shoppers and brick-and-mortar shoppers. The latter group likes to window shop; they want to see and touch and smell things before they bring them home. The former group, on the other hand, prefers the speed and convenience and shopping from their homes.

So which is better for finding cheap car insurance: online shopping or brick-and-mortar shopping?

Shopping Online is Fast & Convenient

One of the advantages to finding cheap car insurance online is that you can compare multiple quotes almost simultaneously. It is easier to keep track of the lowest car insurance quotes if you have them all on the camouflage in front of you.

Some auto insurance companies will even let you compare quotes from multiple vendors through one web site. However, it is extremely important that you verify all quotes before purchase and that you provide as much accurate information as possible.

According to Save Today, you will have better luck finding cheap car insurance online if you use an unbiased comparison web site. This will allow you to locate the best bets before you expect a quote online.

Personalize Your Auto Insurance Quote in Person

When you shop in brick-and-mortar offices for car insurance, you will receive a more personalized quote. You will be able to ask about potential discounts that might not be included in an online form, and you can discuss your personal history with the agent. Cheap car insurance often requires a careful examination of all variables.

Many people recall to shop for car insurance in person because they receive better service. They get to know their agents, and their agents become familiar with their individual situations. This can lead to more discounts and better communication.

Avoiding the Sales Pitch

However, some car insurance agents are better at persuasion than others. When you search for cheap car insurance online, you don’t have to worry about someone breathing down your neck or giving you high-pressure sales pitches. If you hurry away, no one gives you the evil eye.

Every consumer is different, and the route you purchase to find cheap car insurance depends on your personal preferences, your Internet skills, and your auto insurance experience. If you have any doubt, however, it is best to meet with an agent in person, even if you plan to manage your insurance online.

Those Geico cavemen commercials were hilarious. Extremely civilized cavemen facing discrimination and bias in a human world-brilliant. I loved them and each and every one of them made me laugh. In one scenario, the cavemen go to a fancy restaurant and one orders duck with mango salsa while the other explains he lost his appetite in disgust. In another he goes to a therapist in his attempt to deal with the Geico “So easy a caveman can do it” campaign. In yet another he appears on a split screen talk show to defend his viewpoints and stick up for cavemen rights while he is mocked yet again with no recourse except to sigh disapprovingly. Could ABC expand on these lovable and hilarious characters, making them into an lively full-length sitcom?

Simply stated: No, no they could not. Not that anybody truly expected anything different. While curiosity was certainly piqued by the concept of Cavemen, few actually believed the indicate would be tall. In the first episode of Cavemen they inserted the jokes and storylines you might expect. The show began with one caveman ridiculing The Flintstones and why he didn’t find it laughable. In the words of one of the cavemen talking about a cocktail party, the show was unfortunately, mostly “lamesville”.

That’s not to say the entire show was awful. The highlight of the Cavemen premiere was a long debate amongst characters when one of the cavemen was dating a member of the Homo sapiens species; a normal human being. There was shock and fear when he announced the reason they haven’t met his girlfriend was that she was a “sape”. He was also concerned that his girlfriend’s friends wouldn’t glean him, a caveman, either. However, he later finds out that his girlfriend may actually have a cavemen fetish, and has been around the block of the cavemen meat market, so to speak.

Another interesting and mildly humorous facet of the show was the different personalities of the cavemen, as well as their assimilation into normal society. One is attempting to travel on beyond his old girlfriend and finally achieves some happiness by playing the Nintendo Wii. Another is working on his dissertation (with help from Wikipedia), is ultra-trendy and is the comic of the group, spouting off clever one liners and sarcasm. He was also the one against the dating of a “sape”, stating, “Withhold your penis in your genus.” The names of the characters are also funny as they are presented as preppy white boys. Names like Joel, Maurice and Andy are unexpected and make for an captivating caveman presentation. However, one disappointment is that not all of the characters were physically exactly like the commercial cavemen.

Cavemen receives points for originality, without a doubt. Some of the demonstrate was even funny, to an extent. It was better than expected, although expectations for the Geico commercial turned cavemen themed sitcom were indeed low. But the real expect is how long can the show sustain itself? Even if the ratings are acceptable and people want to discover, how long can the theme of cavemen discrimination in a human world truly play out? It seems as if noteworthy of the available jokes and themes were weak up during the series premiere.

More importantly, does the airing of the show mean the Geico commercials will no longer be seen? That’s not fair, I loved those Geico commercials and I’d much rather take in my Cavemen viewing in 30 second increments rather than 30 itsy-bitsy ones. In lieu of the Geico commercials though, I may just be forced to continue to watch and see how it plays out. “Yabba dabba doo”… “Don’t… Ever!”

The one thing most people really must have but hate to buy is car insurance. Affordable car insurance is only appreciated when it is needed after an accident or wound from a natural pain. The problem is that affordable car insurance is hard to find unless you have that perfect mix of a smart driving record, good credit and insurance scores, live in the right area, be in the right age range, and drive a low risk car. For the rest of us, we may claim to have affordable car insurance, but we have to work awfully hard to make the premiums.

Drawing from personal experience and some tricky work on the internet, a list of companies that offer competitively priced if not affordable car insurance. When shopping for insurance of any type, originate obvious that you shop. Try as much as possible to compare apples to apples.

Insurance agents like to execute in things to drive the price up to obtain bigger commissions. Online agents do the reverse and may leave some key items out to make certain that they offer you the most affordable car insurance, but it may not always be the best for you. Here is a list of five companies that for the most part are well known and respected. For comparison purposes, I have used an aging mini-van and not-quite-new Dodge Intrepid for test purposes.

The only discounts considered are for first-rate driver and multiple vehicle coverage. Several of these companies give discounts for membership in some professional, governmental, and civic organizations. Because there are hundreds of these, I recommend that you check with your company or agent for such discounts.

Safeco Insurance Company is one that I have fresh personal experience as an insurance carrier. For the two vehicles mentioned, the six month premium paid for monthly by bank draft costs $84 per month. For this amount, both vehicles carry both liability that is required by law in most states and collision. The collision deductible is $250 per incident and comprehensive is at zero deductible. The liability limits are above the minimum at $100,000/$300,000. The policy does not include towing or rental car at this price. It does include underinsured and uninsured motorist coverage. Medical coverage is limited to $5,000.

The Hartford Insurance Company is another pleasant insurer that was considered. For the same two vehicles, the cost was quoted at $68 per month via bank draft. While the price was lower than Safeco, there were some differences in the policy. The two major changes were that the collision deductible was raised to $500 per incident. The comprehensive was not available at a zero cost deductible. The quoted price included a $250 deductible on comprehensive. At this level, a no-deductible on windshield glass that can be repaired is offered. Liability and medical coverage was the same level as Safeco. Uninsured and underinsured motorist, no towing, and no rental car are also the same.

American Family was the next company viewed for affordable car insurance. The quote on the two vehicles came in at about $65 per month on bank draft. No changes were noted in the liability coverage. Medical, underinsured, and uninsured motorist were included in the premium amount. Both vehicles were covered for collision at a $500 deductible. The comprehensive was set at a $250 deductible with repairable windshield damage excluded from the deductible. The quote was obtained without towing or rental vehicle coverage.

Because of their lizard and heavy TV advertising, Geico is the next company considered for affordable car insurance. They quoted these vehicles at about $105 per month with several differences in coverage. The liabilities, underinsured, uninsured motorist coverage was the same level. The mini-van was quoted in this offer without collision or comprehensive coverage. Also, the comprehensive and collision on the Brave were both set at $500 per incident. Both vehicles were again quoted without towing or rental vehicle.

The final company in this list is Allstate. Having used this company a few times in the past, I have found them to be competitive when looking for affordable car insurance. However, for the quote on these vehicles, the monthly premium on a bank draft was $91. The coverage was the same as most of the other companies. Both vehicles were quoted with liability, comprehensive, and collision. The comprehensive and collision both carry a $500 deductible with the exception for windshield repair. Uninsured and underinsured motorist and medical coverage was included. Again, a rental replacement vehicle was not offered nor road hazard with towing.

Four out of the five of these quotes were obtained directly from agents. The fifth, Geico, was handled online only. There was no real difference in the clarity of the quotes with the exception that it is handy to have a live person to answer questions immediately. Geico’s website is fast and easy to use. I was able to get a quote within three minutes from the time that I started the create until the quote was offered. The agents that I dealt with in searching for possible new coverage for vehicles, were efficient, helpful, and responded within a reasonable time frame.

It is possible to find the most affordable car insurance with a moderate amount of effort. You just need to be diligent to ask for the right or desired coverage so that the quotes are able to be compared. If you change your mind about deductible amounts or liability limits during the process, be obvious to go back and be fair to earlier agents by allowing them to quote their premium amounts with the same terms.
